Development Finance Institutions: The need for bold actions to invest better
Year: 2021
Content Type: Report
Description: This report provides an up-to-date analysis and key findings of Development Finance Institutions (DFIs) and Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) investment and the private finance this has mobilized in developing countries between 2013 and 2018. It highlights two trends having opposing impacts on the UN SDG funding gap: (i) it notes welcome shifts in DFI and MDB investment and the resulting positive trends of slightly higher leverage rates, increased investment in Low and Middle Income Countries, and increased investment in riskier countries; and (ii) it finds that total annual DFI and MDB investment commitments are growing quite slowly, Low Income Countries are continuing to receive a small share of investment commitments, and many DFIs and MDBs remain tied to employing instruments with which they have experience and capacity.
